Welcome to Glob

An overview of Glob, the decentralized storage protocol built on Celestia.

What is Glob?

What is Glob?

Glob (Global Layer of Blobs) is a decentralized, blob-based storage protocol built on top of Celestia’s Data Availability (DA) layer.

In the Web2 era, users had no choice but to trust centralized servers and platforms to safeguard their data.
This trust was often broken — personal data was sold, stolen, or tampered with.

In Web3, that relationship is being redefined. With verifiable, permissionless, and censorship-resistant systems, users can now reclaim control over their data.

ℹ️

Why this matters

Glob isn't just about decentralization for its own sake — it's about eliminating single points of failure in core data infrastructure. Centralized storage introduces hidden risks that can compromise user trust, system reliability, and long-term resilience.

However, most dApps today still rely on centralized storage solutions.
Existing decentralized alternatives are often:

  • ❌ Too expensive
  • ❌ Too slow
  • ❌ Or not truly decentralized

This undermines the core promises of Web3.

Glob aims to fix this.

Glob introduces a new storage primitive that is:

  • Fast
  • 💸 Affordable
  • 🟢 Truly permissionless

When a dApp writes data to Glob, that data is:

  1. Compressed and encoded into a blob
  2. Published to Celestia’s blobspace
  3. Indexed by a decentralized network of nodes
  4. Served from local node storage for high-speed reads

This design allows high-throughput, low-latency access without sacrificing decentralization or verifiability.

💡

Glob isn’t just a tool — it’s an open protocol for developers, node runners, and ecosystem builders who care about scale, modularity, and decentralization.
